Through the Bible in 101 Days
I recently finished reading through the entire Bible in 101 days. It has become an annual reading program that I have completed for the last six years. This personal challenge was inspired by a student at a Christian school who was motivated to read the Bible in 70 days after hearing me speak about media. I had quoted a statistic that the average teen in the US consumed 7.5 hours of media each day (TV, video games, social media, etc.) and compared that with the average time it takes to read the Bible (between 70-75 hours). I pointed out that it would only take 70 days to read the Bible through if you read for an hour a day. I must confess that I had never done this myself but it was certainly food for thought. I received a note from the teen letting me know she was going to take a break from media and try reading the Bible in 70 days and I was blown away and convicted. I read the Bible often and would try to read it through each year but this was a new goal worth considering. I decided to modify the challenge to tie in with my ministry, Media Talk 101, so I worked out a reading plan for 101 days. I decided to time myself that first year and it took about 45 minutes a day on average. That’s not much time but it’s harder to carve out that time every day for 101 days in a row. Since that first year I have thoroughly enjoyed the disciplined reading schedule. It gives me a birds eye view of the Scriptures and the rest of the year I dig in deeper at a slower pace.
